Sarnia vs Guelph Preview (Feb. 9/19)
The Sarnia Sting and Guelph Storm conclude the second game of their home-and-home series with a game in Sarnia tonight. Last night in Guelph, the Sting had a big 6-2 win, their second win in a row.
The Sting come into this game with a 23-23-5-2 record, making them sixth in the Western Conference. They are two points ahead of seventh-place Kitchener, who does not play today, so if they get at least one point tonight then they will be closer to securing a playoff spot. Also, the Sting are one point behind of Owen Sound, so a win will put them in fifth place.
The Guelph Storm are 27-14-6-4 this season, and are in fourth place in the Western Conference. They are ten points ahead of fifth place, so they have a comfortable cushion in terms of playoff positioning.

The Sting are 2-1-0-0 against Guelph this season. Their first game was 6-5 for Guelph, and then Sarnia won the next two games 6-3 and 6-2. Over the past five years when these teams have played in Sarnia, the Sting are dominating the Storm, going undefeated in nine games in that time period. Sarnia was also 4-0-0-0 against Guelph last season, so they have really had their number in the past.
The Sting had a strong showing in Guelph last night, winning 6-2. Despite that score, Guelph still has the potential to win tonight, as they have lots of stars who they acquired in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline this season. However, the Storm are under .500 since the deadline, so we may see a change in the standings in the coming weeks if they continue to slide. A team like Sarnia, Kitchener, or Owen Sound could move up to fourth place if Guelph falls down in the standings.
Puck drop is set for 7:05pm at Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia.
